Geoff Price – ‘Horse Racing and Abstract Originals’ by the late, Chester born Artist

Friday, 06 July 2018 by CHaCAdmin

Working in collaboration with Laura from Adanac Art,  Chester Art Centre is privileged to exhibit and reveal a selection of Original Oil and Acrylics from Geoff’s very own Private collection.

Geoff was one of the most collectable artists in the UK, with his paintings now almost impossible to come by, until now!

He captured vibrancy, movement and light beautifully by painting the swift, collective movement of horses and their rider’s crouched pose.

Geoff also produced bold and brightly coloured abstracts, using the classic impressionistic impasto technique of thickly textured paint, that is almost three-dimensional in appearance. These extremely rare and sought after Originals were created on canvas using both oil and acrylic.

History of Geoff Price

It was in the 1960s and 70s that Geoff enjoyed a career as a jockey, where he used to exercise horses at the stables of the late Donald ‘Ginger’ McCain.

Geoff then trained at the Mid-Cheshire College and went on to study at as a mature student and graduated in Fine Art from Liverpool Polytechnic in 1977.  He once said of his artwork, “As a result of my association with horse racing I try to capture its pageantry – jockey’s colours, crowds, but more importantly it’s the movement, the physical power of jockey and horse; that I want to convey through my work.”

Speaking about his art work, Labour Cllr Martyn Delaney said; “He had this way of capturing movement in his paintings, bringing them alive. There was so much energy in his paintings.”

Geoff exhibited in galleries across the UK; his work is still featured in the collection at University of Liverpool, as well as private collections in the UK, Ireland, USA and Colombia.

Racehorse trainer Ed Dunlop, TV racing presenter and journalist Brough Scott and TV horse racing pundit John McCririck were among the many admirers and collectors of his work.

The private event will take place on Thursday, July 26 between 6 PM and 9 PM. Join us for some fantastic art, a glass of fizz (or two) and fascinating stories about Geoff and his work. Laura and friends from the Garden Quarter, will be there to share stories and raise a toast to Geoff.

We look forward to seeing you!

Please RSVP to hello@chesterartcentre.co.uk if you would like to attend.
