OPEN EXHIBITION 2017
GUSTUM Italian Speciality
‘New Italian eatery Gustum recently opened on the Northgate walls, in the space formerly occupied by a bookshop. An extensive renovation has seen the unit transformed into a welcoming continental style cafe/takeaway. The menu offers Italian delicacies such as parma ham, mozzarella and gorgonzola, with veg and other products sourced locally.
Owner Marco Di Pasquale chatted to us about his new venture and his love for the city.”Gustum is Italian speciality. Gustum is Latin for breakfast/brunch, a midday snack. I decided to open a little cafe/takeaway on the city wall, the menu recalls a little bit of the Roman Empire’. (taken from www.thechesterblog.com)

The 'Chi' as it's now named (originally Chichester Arms) after a recent, beautifully tasteful refurbishment has all the character, charm, welcoming atmosphere and 'good feel', accompanied with the free-fall banter of the Chester 'Garden Quarter' locals that I strongly feel as a sound reason that you should go out of your way, or to new people in the area, to experience everything the Chi is. I doubt it'll be your first and last visit. Yep... that good. Be part of the Chi crowd.
Jackie - the landlady who was highly influential in the refurb design - and her long standing loyal staff know and ACTUALLY run a pub for people to enjoy of all ages whatever the time of the opening hours. It's Jackie's passion... and it shines through. Live bands including the super- cool , immensely talented residents playing every Monday -The Terry Burgin Blues Band ("eat your heart out Maddy Waters" they say!), along with open mic, purely fun kariokki and quiz separate evenings, tasty wholesome food, nice and easy local clientele ( absolutly no pretentious people to be found here ) with an amazing Juke box. Spotify maybe has met its match... well not quite but go and indulge yourselves with searching out those long-since heard ,or regularly played tunes throughput the 60's to present day. Great fun, lashings of nostalgia and maybe a little jig or two probably cus 'no-ones watching'... honest !
Come down to the Chi to enjoy in my words 'what a cracking pub this is'. I wouldn't bet against you making new friends to make it an extra special time, coming back time over. I did a few months ago and it's been well worth my walk past a few others... quite a few times now.
These are unsolicited comments from a fan of passionately run, distinctive pubs with that 'special feel' one experiences from time to time. Simple as that. Reckon it's my round...now... what was that you are drinking did you say? Cheers folks!”

“The staff are the best thing about this place which is saying something given how delicious the food and cocktails are!
We were a party of six who had booked a table for food after the races. Food was delicious and really reasonably priced. 100% recommend the kahuna burger, great that you can choose to double it up too. Quality meat, clearly homemade and a delicious bun!
When it came to drinks the staff asked what sort of flavours we liked and made cocktails based around those, I asked for something kiwi flavoured and gin based - they did not disappoint
Can't wait to come back again!”

“A sunny morning in busy Chester. We spotted this cafe off the main drag. A warm welcome; delicious coffee (quite rare, I'm afraid); fantastic cake; relaxing, moving music which added greatly to our experience! What a gem! Bellisimo!”

Ginger Wine Bar & Delicatessen
“A proud Cestrian, raised in my family’s city centre pub. For the past six years I’ve worked as Fundraising Manager at The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, the cancer hospital for our area.
I had long harboured a dream to run a wine bar/deli in Chester, but it was only after my mum Sandra got the all clear from an aggressive form of breast cancer that we decided life was too short not to take the plunge.
For a long time I’ve hoped somebody would open a relaxed wine bar-come-deli-type-place in Chester. I don’t always want to go for a big meal on a Friday night, I love live music but don’t always want a loud band… after a busy week I want to graze on nibbles over a bottle of wine, listen to background music, and relax.
I started planning how I’d do it, if I ‘won the lottery’…
… I haven’t won the lottery! But nobody else opened what I felt Chester was missing and my partner encouraged me to look into it further. After my mum survived a cancer diagnosis and gruelling treatment regime four years ago, we decided life’s too short. I gave up my job and mum decided to give hers up too! We opened Ginger wine bar & delicatessen in November 2015.
It has been a labour of love, we cook almost everything ourselves and anything we realistically can’t, we source local. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Jade & Sandra”
